Faire naître la poésie dans les fissures du système! Promener son chien permet de faire de belles découvertes, comme cette œuvre de Laurence Petit, la fée des trottoirs (je suppose!)

Surprise for my morning walk today: an old Citroën H van! It reminds me of my holidays in the Alps when I was a kid and the local grocer would come to the village once a week to sell his products. When I think that it was the main vehicle used by the French Police at the time!

September: it’s time to sample some skin tissue from chipmunks for cell culture with @mathildetissier.bsky.social and @julia-goss.bsky.social
These cultures will enable our collaborators from Strasbourg and the @mnhn.fr to analyse telomere dynamics and the senescence process.

This is « Grace », a ruffed grouse that lives nearby one of our chipmunk study sites. She interacted with the field crew through out the all summer. Hope she’ll b more aloof during the hunting season. Check the camouflage!

Everytime I sit at the table our cat, Baffi, comes rushing and requests that I pet her, whole she’s licking the closest piece of furniture. A little paw and a meow: that’s her technique for asking. #IdiosyncraticCat #CatsRule

S’éloigner du monde et de ses turbulences, s’isoler du bruit et de la fureur; ne serait-ce que quelques secondes… une éternité.
Une nouvelle définition du luxe.

Urbanite woodchuck (Marmota Monaco). This one lives on Mont-Royal Avenue; Plateau Mont-Royal. She loves her apartment, nearby restaurants and grocery stores, but complains about the rising rents in the area. #UrbanWildlife

We installed smart (programmable), bear-proof feeders today, to study chipmunks sampling behaviour with Laurence Feyten. We are now crossing our fingers!

The second study site of the Corsican Blue tit research programme is E-Muro, localed in the same valley as D-Muro, just 6km away from it. But the two habitats different a lot: E-Muro is dominated by holm oaks. This difference has lead to multiple phenotypic and genetic specialisations for blue tits

Here is the site of D-MURO. D stands for deciduous as the forest is dominated by downy oaks (Quercus pubescens). At this time of the year, trees haven’t renewed their foliage, but blue tits defend their territory ferociously.
The whole area is structured around old, abandonned terraced cultivations

Last week was the beginning of the 2025 field season on Corsican blue tits, 50 years after Jacques Blondel installed his first nestboxes! I feel so lucky to take part in this long-term research program: fantastic team at CEFE-CNRS, amazing bird populations, and stuning landscapes.
