Emerson St Bikeway Community Meeting This Thursday. We are getting word that NIMBYs are trying to organize against a Capitol Hill neighborhood bikeway on Emerson Street (between 2nd and 11th Ave). Please come to the Shift Workspaces on Corona Street this Thursday, September 25 at 7 PM to support the bikeway.

Unfortunately, this crash was predictable. Neighbors have been asking for street safety infrastructure upgrades to W 14th Ave for years.

If Mayor Mike Johnston wants to get the community of people that care about sustainable transportation and safer streets on board with this bond, he should add protected bike lane projects to this bond, not words pretending like he is.
The Mayor thinks that changing language will convince voters he cares about people that bike. When he has 0 miles of new protected bike lanes in this bond, we call BS. Tearing down a bridge that already had a bike path on it and putting a bike path on the new bridge is not a bike project. Adding new protected bike lanes to the bond list is more meaningful than adding words. between Colorado Boulevard and Quebec Street. 2) Amended the language of the Transportation and Mobility ballot question to better reflect an emphasis on cyclist and pedestrian safety in the multimodal transportation projects.

Joe 3 days ago Why does navigating a city that purports itself to be so outdoor-friendly have to mean bouncing between a woefully incomplete bike network and surface streets? Cars are given every opportunity to get around the city with an over- abundant street network, which all come with their own large maintenance and repair costs. It's time to build out a truly complete, safe bike network and start saving infrastructure dollars by closing redundant roads and bridges. Let's fix traffic by providing a better alternative to just paving more.

Another crash. Pickup truck driver drove into the bike lane & hit a person on a scooter and dragged them. This road was supposed to be upgraded to a protected bike lane, but once again DOTI leadership & the Mayor have not prioritized the work to make it safer. 1st Ave & Knox Ct. #bikeden

A driver killed a woman on a bike tonight on W 38th Avenue. This is the second fatal hit and run bike crash on W 38th Avenue in the last few years.

This is also at an intersection along a street scheduled to become a protected bike lane until the local city councilor intervened, so there's that.

Mayor Johnston's answer to a questionnaire on bikes: But Denver has frequently strayed from executing the Denver Moves plan as written, delaying and even canceling planned projects. As Mayor, I will commit to executing Denver Moves- and expanding upon it to build more high-comfort, dedicated bike lanes-to ensure that our city follows through on the ambitious promises it's made. Mayor Johnston's anger during an interview last week about bike infrastructure: And there are a lot of us in the city who still have to use cars, and we don't want to make it harder for you to use a car. We want to make it easier for you to use a bike, and we think there's a way to do both by both protecting parking spots, getting a smaller number of various safe lanes, and then making sure that we can still get people that want access to businesses that have spaces in front." Johnston added that the city has paused expansions for a lot of new bike lanes, but would like to accelerate a smaller number of lanes for higher safety protections.

Call your city council members and the two at large council members today. The mayor has proposed reducing dedicated bike lane funding in the bond package to $0. It’s time we fight back for sustainable and safe transportation.
Legislative Alert- Call or email your Council- members today Mayor Johnston has completely ignored the bond community input process & has reduced dedicated bike lane funding in the bond package to $0. This is down from $18 million in the last bond. Call or email your council member & the two at large council members and ask them to put dedicated bike lane funding in the bond package. Not funding bike lane projects in this bond will set our progress on climate friendly transportation back for at least a decade.

Your occasional reminder that the Mayor and DOTI leadership got rid of a protected bike lane here to enhance the valet parking experience for steakhouse patrons while making this bike lane more dangerous for anyone that rides it on a bike or scooter.

We’ve heard Mayor Johnston is proposing to reduce bicycle funding in our upcoming GO Bond by 95%!!! That means hardly any new bike lanes in #denver for the next decade.
Mayor Johnston is reducing funding for bike lanes in the upcoming Vibrant Denver bond by 95%! In the 2017 Elevate Bond, Mayor Hancock funded $18,000,000 of citywide bike lanes. We've heard Johnston's bond has only ~$875,000. Johnston is not serious about reducing air pollution and fighting climate change.

Thank you Mayor Johnston and DOTI for “upgrading” our bike lanes. They work so well to keep trucks from parking in them now that you’ve removed the flex posts. And pedestrian can see so well into the shops now without the flex posts being there.
