I openly discourage people I care about from becoming teachers. It's a job predicated on abuse. I think my current student teacher will probably stay with education but of my last 6 interns, only one still teaches. The rest? 2 police officers, a librarian, a scuba instructor, one in seminary.

I wouldn't allow anyone I loved to become a teacher. No one deserves to do all that academic work, just to get a job predicated on underpayment, abuse, and free labor.
