How many times do you have to actively engineer your own loss before you wake up to the fact that you need to quit pretending and just go the fuck home?

Oct 28, 1886: The Statue of Liberty is dedicated, by President Grover Cleveland. For almost 140 years, it has been a symbol of America's resistance to oppression & its promise to be a better place than people may have left behind.

Americans still fight for that promise, even if our leaders do not.

Oct 19, 1953: Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury's tale of a dystopian future where books & scientific knowledge are considered evil, while the government attacks its own citizens if they fall out of line, is published.

It's called fiction for a fucking reason. It wasn't supposed to be a How To manual.

It may be time to consider Stephen Miller is simply not mentally stable.

Reading his rants, one can completely picture him as the character that reaches for a police officer's gun to shoot everyone as they try to cuff him for his crimes, instead of ever even realizing that he was wrong all along.

Here's a chart on this year's racial makeup of the people deciding federal laws. It's the most diverse in American history; in 1945, only 1% were not white.

Yes. It can be blamed on white people.

Trump is really trying to convince Americans that all of these scenes depict war zones.

The only invasion is white nationalism and narcissism enabled by a billionaire class, and it's been simmering for centuries.

Sep 25, 1789: Congress passes 12 Constitutional Amendments, including the Bill of Rights. They would be ratified 3 years later. Above all others was the First: Freedom of speech, of the press, and the sectarian nature of government within the US. This very Amendment is what MAGA attempts to destroy.

Sep 23, 1779: His ship sinking, a British officer demands Captain John Paul Jones surrender. His reply: "I may sink, but I'll be damned if I strike." A grenade ignites the British's gunpowder, causing their surrender. Later biographers would morph his reply into, "I have not yet begun to fight!" 1/

Congratulations to #StephenColbert and his crew on tonight's Emmy. Remember, context matters; watch for creative editing from the headlines and pundits to make it seem Colbert wasn't talking about America losing its democracy. He very much was. It's Colbert. How could he not?
