Interesting train timetable bug/anticompetitive feature (you decide...): if you ask SBB or DB there is no direct train between Valenciennes and Arras, because the train is a TGV to Paris with "boarding only" stops at intermediate stations. But if you ask […]

How dysfunctional and incompetent must SNCF be that they can't find a train for a short regional journey starting in 4h from one of their main hubs.

Nice end of season hike at the foot of the Aletsch Glacier: https://www.komoot.com/tour/2643638583

I didn't do much hiking this year so 600m d+ was a bit more tiring than it should be, but the scenery made it worth it. Plus, a really cool suspension […]

This is the Big Lie of #opensource.

(It is also bizarre for DHH to be quoting an LLM in this matter, but I digress)

Tech communities are *already* fractured. There is no "big tent". Instead, what happens is a slow brain drain. Troll-friendly spaces built on […]

Oh hey who would have guessed the #nixos SC was just lying about their conflicts with the moderation team? And that they'd leave logs clearly outlining their intentions to deceive? Can't believe it! /s […]

Today in the #nixos community drama, a member of the NixOS Foundation's board liking a forum post by a rando with ~10 PRs merged in 2 years containing choice quotes like:

> This is an open source software packaging solution, not a political arena.

> please don’t try to keep one foot in the […]

It's always fun to witness the implicit agreement between graffiti artists and train engineers - don't screw with the important markings and we won't screw with your graffiti (on cargo trains at least).

I find the latest instance of #nixos drama kinda interesting: I'm usually fairly aligned with one of the two sides, but here I feel like the mod team is very much misdiagnosing the problem.

IMO it's desired that the SC should have oversight over the mod team and be able to keep them accountable […]

I admire the baiting efforts put in place to seed everyone's GitHub's block lists: https://github.com/basecamp/omarchy/issues/1913
Code of conduct? · Issue #1913 · basecamp/omarchy
What do you need? Have you considered adding a code of conduct for this project, and establishing processes for dealing with toxic behavior? The contributor covenant is a useful place to start.

Wait, people are still surprised that Cloudflare is pandering to fascists? https://drewdevault.com/2025/09/24/2025-09-24-Cloudflare-and-fascists.html

(I'm sure Drew isn't and knew about this, and I appreciate the evidence collecting in this post. But yeah, it's just Cloudflare doing what […]

Considering actually voting in the next #nixos SC elections - at first I was "whatever" because it's not like the SC can reasonably improve things, but actually having the shittiest possible SC elected might accelerate a well needed implosion so there might be a point in voting after all!

The latest easylist / youtube viewcount fiasco might be the biggest accidental advertisement for the benefits of MV3 I've seen in a while.

It's a great reminder about how little care and quality control goes into easylist, and how batshit insane it was to give it the equivalent of arbitrary […]

Why Americans Don't Walk To School - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lShDhGn5e5s

this neighborhood he filmed looks so much like America-as-I-know-her that it hurts. When I was a child, I lived in a housing development, a separate loop from the main road, nothing but houses on both sides for the […]

Love when DB tells me early enough about train cancellations that I can end up getting home 2h earlier than planned (and with a more direct itinerary).

Caught a direct 16:50 train from Frankfurt to Basel just before it left!

I just found this 3DS in one of my drawers that I had no idea I even owned. Probably not touched in 5+ years at least. Laughed a bit when I saw what was in the cartridge slot.

my husband: do you think the Steam servers will survive the Silksong launch?

me: of course, they've handled tons of very big launches for games that are much larger downloads, they'll be able to handle it

With the interrail sale currently ongoing, it's cheaper for me to buy a 4 day/1 month pass than to buy a roundtrip TGV ticket from Basel to Lille (yes, including the stupid seat reservation fees, thanks SNCF). French trains pricing is such a joke.

Of course not a single train ticket search […]
