Ghostly visage indeed - this article from 1933 talks about it coming "soon."

The other thing is that there are library-specific architects that cities often ignore, going for people who want to make interesting-looking buildings. Cities want libraries to be prestige buildings, which end up being not accessible or not meeting the needs of the library patrons and staff.

My read of this is that the city is saying a bike lane there would be nice, not that they will try to make one (or that the MTA would). Same with the other "opportunities" in the report.

I've seen this a lot too. I think a lot started because they wanted to hands-free talk like a traditional Bluetooth but then forgot the purpose and now wear both all the time.

Was in a Bolt last weekend. Fantastic car - and one of few in its form factor these days. Hope they don't take too long to bring out the new model!

Exactly - Veterans Day was created after World War I and falls on Armistice Day. To be more charitable than I should be, a lot of workplaces, schools, etc. don't observe that day anymore so I can see why it has been "forgotten."

They did? Mine still works for balance reloads (it is Edenred - stopped about a month before they issued a card with a chip, but now works fine)... I'm lucky in that I could also tap with their card if that went down but I find it easier to have an OMNY card.

Skype got a lot worse over time - kind of like WhatsApp there are a lot of scammers, and the interface makes it worse. Plus the scammers sometimes not just texted but actually call. Zoom had none of that, Google's products were integrated to your email, and MS pushed Teams for business.

Wow - what an experience to have! Want to say that stylistically, your video also reminds me of "A Trip Down Market Street" so kudos on that front too.

Exactly! Why do the firefighters bring home their gear? Shouldn't there be on-site cleaning or a service contracted? Bringing it home, no matter what way seems bad!

I believe it is the new default Word font. All the MS365/Office 365 users are getting it.

Sadly makes sense. Journal Square had hotels in the past. On PATH to go right to midtown. NYC hotel ban is huge problem - have heard that even the terrible NJ hotels are now often charging $700+ per night. Have had friends stay in Central Jersey (Princeton area) to avoid high cost of NYC area hotels

Governor also gets you that executive experience helpful in selling yourself as a president who can manage the federal bureacracy..

Truth! At least at the general store, you waited on line, but then got everything you needed all at once from the clerk!

My experience in NY, a lot of the Rite Aids and Walgreens/Duane Reads used to have security, but then let them go. First, they tried to get NYPD to do that role (patrol stores, park cars in lots) but it didn't work (and stores were wrong to rely on police for this.) Then they started locking stuff.

There kind of is. Last I tried, the signup requires a license plate number, which you don't have if you don't own a vehicle. I also used to have one, but it got cancelled because I didn't use it frequently enough.

A few years ago, the agency seems to have taken an "it will collapse if we don't fix it" approach to their communications about another type of shut down. Not sure if better or not, but interesting to see the change in approach: www.brooklynpaper.com/express-n-tu...
Express N tunnel will shut for one year of emergency repairs • Brooklyn Paper
The tunnel is in danger of “caving in,” according to Community Board 7 members briefed by transit officials.

I know they weren't trying to compete in that space, but it looks like they considered online shopping at some point: chmartin.com/estore.html

That's amazing. Last time I was there, headways were like that at rush hour only. It was like every 20 min off peak if I'm remembering right.

Do you know if they have dispatchers working on weekends at all? On a route I use, almost every weekend the bus, scheduled for every 30 minutes has consistently left with two buses within 5 minutes each other, causing them to be bunched the whole route, all day long often causing 1.5 hour+ waits.

For a while, I was experiencing daily smoking on trains here in NY too, but now it's down to only once in a while. It still seems to happen on certain platforms somewhat regularly, but that seems to be going down too. What are we doing right?
