Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced the freeze ahead of the Budget this week, promising to save commuters hundreds of pounds on some of the busiest routes in the country, after decades of spiralling fares. Today’s announcement comes ahead of next week’s Budget, which the Government has said will focus on the priorities of the British people: cutting waiting lists, cutting the national debt and cutting the cost of living.

Over 2,500 Veterans in Crawley are set to benefit from a transformational new Veterans Strategy as Labour announces plan to renew the nation's contract with those who serve and have served. New support hubs will help improve local veterans services. Centres will offer guidance and support in health, housing and employment, and may extend to finance, wellbeing, and integration into society.

Having received multiple complaints from constituents over refunds not being processed by the Home Office and getting nowhere with the usual channels, I raised the issue in the House with the minister directly (and have since had word that the refunds are being prioritised).

Almost 3,950 sick or disabled people will receive employment support in our region, thanks to £15.6m in funding from Labour’s Connect to Work programme. The scheme will deliver localised, tailored support to people who are sick, disabled or face complex barriers to work. It provides intensive, personalised help including individual coaching from employment specialists, job matching services, and ongoing support for both participants and employers to ensure sustainable employment outcomes.

Generations of young people in Crawley will be supported to progress into work or university with new qualifications to break down barriers to opportunity and help to deliver on the Prime Minister’s plan to get two-thirds of young people participating in higher-level learning – academic, technical or on an apprenticeship. Peter Lamb, Labour MP for Crawley, has led an important debate in Parliament on the growing problem of vehicle headlight glare and its impact on drivers in Crawley and across the country. Families in Crawley are starting to receive notification letters confirming their eligibility. This follows the expansion of this crucial cost of living support to include all bill payers who qualify for a means-tested benefit.

Thousands of people facing homelessness will be supported by a new £84 million cash injection to councils up and down the country ahead of winter, with Crawley set to benefit. Children and families in temporary accommodation in Crawley will be prioritised – with the funding to go towards helping families to cover the essentials like food, school travel and laundry. The new funding unlocked by the Labour government, which will support children to remain in education.

With 80% of drivers concerned about the increasing glare from modern headlights, I was successful in securing a Westminster Hall debate on the problem and what might be done to resolve it.
