DC standard is 20’ fire lane for most (if not all) locations, regardless of building height. I think NYC only requires 16’ or 18’

@jaketapper.bsky.social have you looked into this? I know presidential age and declining competence is one of your beats

Also the left argument falls apart when thinking about a pricing tool from the other direction: in a world of oversupply, should it be illegal for landlords to determine the optimal rent discount to ensure steady occupancy?

Surge in U.S. Concern About Immigration Has Abated
The percentage of Americans wanting less immigration has dropped by nearly half this year to 30%, with 79% now saying immigration benefits the U.S.

These same strategists look at an abrupt swing in popular support to the Dem’s preferred policies and say “we should triangulate to adopt our opponents posture.” Pure madness

I always try to keep clear rhetorical boundaries between ‘Washington’ (National politics, sociopathy, dead-eyed ghouls) and ‘The District’ (Local, magnanimous, go-go)

Sad moment for everyone involved: Rep. Norton for sullying her legacy by doddering on display, the staffer with an MPP reduced to a home health aide, DC residents lacking a voice in congress capable of meeting the moment. No winners here, only losers. DC deserves better

“How do you feel knowing that the whole city hates you?” one protester asked the Park Police.
August 23, 2025 at 11:03 PM
Yeah weird it sure does. Second video is clear it’s a US Park Police vest. Sad state of affairs if USPP is getting roped into Metro enforcement. Also unclear if @wmata.com police are under any obligations to work with Feds since they’re neither a Federal nor District agency. Maybe an existing MOU?

The two guys in hats are WMATA police, including the officer telling her to leave. Not Feds. Unclear about the one with the beard. Vest says US Federal Police? Very scary regardless the city is tense

This is correct. Fractured regulatory environments and hyper-local knowledge bases give little incentive for national (or international) attention. LinkedIn is the busiest platform for RE professionals, who then talk about each other’s posts at said conferences/ networking events

A new reg in DC requiring ‘bird-friendly’ glass in new construction projects and is adding major $$$ to construction costs. Very expensive glass upgrades will have a nominal impact on bird deaths vs. acknowledging your adorable tabby is a vicious murderer that should be kept indoors!

What I find so exhausting with this line of reasoning: no one wrestles with the fact that there exists a law that was broken! You are the perpetrator not the victim in this scenario! People assume they are the ‘good’ drivers, then take umbrage at a minor consequence when they break the law
July 26, 2025 at 5:22 PM
Nothing in the thread proves manipulation, perhaps a clumsy roll out at best. Tickets are issued 10+ miles over the limit so one could reframe the entire argument as “I’m mad DC sent me a ticket 3 weeks after I was going 10mi over the new limit when I thought I was only 5mi over the old one”
July 26, 2025 at 5:18 PM
You’re proposing an impossibly high and non-falsifiable standard: how does one decide which cameras are for ‘real’ enforcement vs. cynically generating revenue? Is perfect rollout a prerequisite to any enforcement? Anyone could point to any camera and make the argument it’s about revenue not safety!
