#1. Doppelganger by Naomi Klein. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I worried this book would send me into a spiral right before the inauguration but @naomiaklein.bsky.social managed to do something miraculous - clear some of the fog and distortion of our present political landscape. A remarkable, necessary book. 💙📚

When this works in the opposite direction it literally precludes novels from high brow literary conversations based on an arbitrary marketing category - not an actual scholarly one. If Orbital can win the Booker, why can’t something like The Saint of Bright Doors??

It’s frustrating because genre categories seem dictated by marketing and publishers. For example, what the hell is “literary horror”? It’s a horror novel. But if if it’s not published by a particular imprint, it won’t be shelved or marketed as horror.

Take a book with you everywhere (a kindle or throw a paperback in your bag). Then the option is always there to read 5 pages during your lunch break or while in a waiting room. Keep books on your bedside table. Read multiple books at once so you have options for your mood.

The core of air quality regs will be fine but we will again slip backwards on climate action as a country. To keep this from happening every time a conservative admin comes in, what we need is for Congress to delegate statutory authority over regulating GHGs to EPA. Vote in your midterms.

Trump cannot remove the CAA nor can SCOTUS. Congress could hypothetically repeal it but they won’t. The CAA had and still has broad bipartisan support. What Trump can do is remove/slow/discourage rules related to climate change and GHGs. Even some of that is likely to be litigated.
