I learned that `browser.urlbar.update2.engineAliasRefresh` is the config that Zen enables to get that option. So that's neat.

Also Safari manages to be even worse, where there is literally no way to change search engines outside of the predefined ones, not even with OpenSearch. Your only choice is to redirect with extensions, making it annoyingly laggy. Maybe there's a better way with extensions on Mac, I use Zen on Macs..

This just isn’t true, albeit a little hidden. You can either right-click on the url bar for certain search engines, or go into settings-search and at the bottom add custom search engines, then set it as your default

Sometimes they can be reasonable, other times they are just slow. This is explained in the ReadMe on his GitHub
