I really enjoyed the gameplay of XD Gale of Darkness when I played it years ago. Always double battles.

I skipped Gen 4 and 5 too, so I never experienced Black and White. Played lots of Gens 1-3, then 6 and 7. Gen 1-3 are my favorites though.

I played Ultra-Moon, which while handholdy, didn't seem as meh as I've heard the OG Sun and Moon were. I stopped there because I never bought a Switch. I had a 3DS that I originally got to play Kingdom Hearts 3D.

I've never had the chance to play any of the games post-Alola region. I hear some are really good.

The Rom-hack let you take any of the 16 gyms in Crystal in any order and increased the level and teams with each new badge. It let you rematch each gym too at whichever tier you wanted.

I like mass market paperbacks if I only want to read it once, trade paperbacks if I plan on rereading it a lot.

I may be misremembering, but I believe in the crystal clear rom-hack there is a far stronger Youngster Joey if you save him for endgame.
