This White House statement about the secret ballroom donors contains a truly bizarre misuse of the word “honor”.
A White House official said in a statement that the identities of donors "who wish to be named publicly" will be disclosed, but that "donors also have the option to remain anonymous and we will honor that if that's what they choose."

The initial press release from the White House sure seems to plainly state the ballroom will be where the East Wing currently sits. They even insult the East Wing as being kind of irrelevant. Trump’s statements to the press yesterday show he doesn’t think the East Wing is part of the White House!

I'm constantly amazed that the Music app is unable to figure out simple typos or suggest correct spellings. You must know exactly how to spell Ennio Morricone. You must know Patti Smith spells her name with in i not a y. Come on.

I just learned what a groyper is today and now it's suddenly clear that my country is already in a bloody Civil Groyper War, that is so f'n complicated and deeply online that i will never, ever be able to explain this to my relatives at Thanksgiving.

The @nytimes.com article on the Seal Team 6 N Korea mission mentions the failed Yemen mission at the start of Trump’s first term. I clicked through to that piece and found a sentence that clearly shows the importance of DEI in the military and intelligence. No female officer would have missed that…

Woke up and read The NY Times article on this and now I’m not sure anymore. It quotes a former senior federal law official (anonymously) who seems to know what they’re talking about and suspects the boat was carrying migrants.

The former official also said it was unusual to have 11 people manning a vessel that could easily be crewed by two or three, especially since traffickers are always trying to maximize the amount of cargo space devoted to carrying drugs, not human beings. In the former official's opinion, it was more likely that the vessel was carrying migrants on a human smuggling run. It would be impossible to know for sure, however, given that any evidence of drug smuggling was destroyed in the attack.

In February, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth fired the top lawyers for the military services, or judge advocates general. The three-star uniformed lawyers are supposed to give independent and nonpolitical advice about international laws of war and domestic legal constraints on the armed forces. The administration has also largely sidelined the Office of Legal Counsel, the Justice Department arm that traditionally serves as a powerful gatekeeper in American government, including by deciding whether proposed policies are legally permissible.

It is not clear what rules of engagement would govern military action against cartels. But any operation that set out to kill people based on their suspected status as members of a sanctioned cartel, and outside the context of an armed conflict, would raise legal issues involving laws against murder and a longstanding executive order banning assassinations, said Brian Finucane, a former State Department lawyer who is a specialist in the laws of war. "Under traditional executive branch lawyering, it would be hard to see some random drug trafficker meeting the threshold for the self-defense exception to the assassination ban," he said.
