gotta say, don’t think we get to compare ourselves to the french who have so far shown much more willingness to do what they can to shut out the far right from any form of power. we *wish* we had the wherewithal of the cheese eating surrender monkeys

it’s a point that bouie often makes, that democrats are seen as the party with agency, and republicans aren’t responsible for anything

it feels so weird to be inspired by a politician my age. don’t care for it!
October 19, 2025 at 8:09 PM
hey right on man, thanks for doing the same for us. the worlds better for your presence

not technically true, but you can do a fermi estimate to show that you’d need more energy than has been released by the sun in its lifetime to do so, so for all practical intents it is impossible

distances in tasty-space, but it wouldn’t be euclidean.
September 21, 2025 at 2:28 PM
i tend to think this is a nice quality of euclidean geometry- that pythagoras’s theorem holds and is very simple. physical space is, almost axiomatically, euclidean at small scales. in the smoothie example, you might be able to create a metric which would map size of ingredient vectors to

damn this is sad to see! i really don’t think he was always like this. i remember him talking about how it wasn’t worthwhile to have bad-faith commentators on his podcast because it was a waste of time.

i saw the runtime and was like, oh sweet more chitchat from the boys than usual, but it turns out that the majority of the extra minutes are just reading the fucking excerpts

hey maybe don’t conflate the people with the government committing genocide in their name
July 29, 2025 at 12:19 PM
ah yeah hadn’t considered that. thanks for the explanation
July 16, 2025 at 9:00 PM
could you spell out for me what seems especially bad about it? to me it feels unimpressive but normal.
July 16, 2025 at 8:46 PM
the good pundits (bouie et al) have been talking about how a political party can’t only follow public opinion,it often must shape it through consistent messaging and confidence in their own beliefs. gop have been good at this, to tragic ends (eg trans stuff) in contrast to the dems, who are hopeless

okay, i suppose calling his partner , a writer and journalist, a “sugar baby”, is fine to say about any woman, you’re right, my bad
June 17, 2025 at 12:00 PM
i don’t care what you’ve said about ezra klein but not liking him does not make it okay to say misogynist things
June 17, 2025 at 11:53 AM
that’s a misogynist thing to say and you should delete it, even if you disagree with what she said

if you’re okay with it not being made out of whatever “nice” rugs are, i’ve had good luck with both amazon and ikea. they feel like those modern throw blankets, which is to say soft, but certainly some plastic derivative. searching for “runner rug” will reveal options under 200$ in my experience

an excellent example of this is david lynch. dude loved diners and coffee and detective stories but he was simultaneously tapped into the numinous, but hated talking about it because the point was how he could only access it through the story
June 13, 2025 at 2:57 PM
can confirm it is indeed not fun
