Or please reply here. I think this discussion is useful for many senior researchers looking for work.

I am writing here, hoping for honest feedback. I don't know how to fix a problem if I don't know what the problem is.

1. How do I find out why I am being ignored?
2. Is "overqualified" a code word for something else?

If I am not a bad mentor, then the system that rejects the supervisor while interviewing the student has a fundamental problem.
People keep saying, since you're "overqualified," they can't pay you adequately. But I accepted the conditions listed in the job ads. They should not decide on my behalf.

I'm proud when my students shine. But this rejection rationale is an insult to a hierarchy.
I mentored him to become a successful researcher. If he's a "better candidate" than me, there is something fundamentally wrong with my competence as a mentor and the system that assigned me to mentor him.

Here is a clear example of the problem:
My PhD student and I applied for the same position. The salary was clearly listed. By applying, I accepted that salary.
The result: My student was invited for an interview. I received a TEMPLATE rejection saying they "found a better candidate."

Is the problem my documents? I am an established researcher. I know how to write scientifically, and my CV is fully aligned with academic standards.
I tried asking for feedback on X and LinkedIn, but people just say "you are overqualified" or "fix the design." This doesn't explain what is happening.

HRs now say: "If you don't hear from us in a month, assume rejection."
What does this truly mean? It feels disrespectful. The minimum action required is to respect the applicant's time and send a simple TEMPLATE email, although the template is a problem.
