Today I read that a $750 Million dollar widening of Kenaston Blvd is a 'necessity' for the City. The same City that cannot find the money to build low cost housing for Winnipeg's growing population of people without any housing - forced to live on the streets or little camps like our neighbour's.

But as winter approaches, heating will again become a life and death question for the inhabitants. If safe housing can't be found for them, they and their neighbours will be in serious danger - again.

This year, the camp is made up of a row of small tents. The site and the rest of the garden area have been kept tidy and clear of litter. Folks there are doing their best to make a home with what they have And this is great - for the community, but more importantly, for those living in the tents.

We have a small community garden on our block where a house burned years ago. In recent years, it has frequently housed a small homeless camp, primarily made up of tarps and plastic sheeting on lines between fences and trees. Last year fire destroyed the camp and damaged the neighbouring house.
