From west riverfront rail yard to Ralph Wilson Park, it’s been quite a glow up.

Given the popularity of the Dream Cruise and nostalgia for cruising Woodward, I'm surprised no one has proposed a new retro drive in restaurant on that site. Imagine a Big Boy that looked like Mel's in American Graffiti.

Speaking of restaurants on Woodward, I wonder what's happening with the old Pasquale's site on Woodward? Its been 1.5 years since they announce a Big Boy on the site.

I appreciate the symbolism of the GM sign in Detroit but moving from the entire RenCen to the top few floors of the new Hudson Building isn't the power move they think it is. Besides, everyone knows that GM is really headquartered in Warren.

Despite being gone for decades, you can still see some remnants of the old round house in Milwaukee Junction, Detroit.

The next spot being considered would have massive Grand River running through the middle of it and surrounded once again, by nothing but parking. That's not 100% true.
@umich.edu is building there. Not a great hangout over the highway but its not my money to spend.

You can cover this area but it will only connect parking lots & parking structures. They're never going to start on that hotel that was promised 10 years ago and there's Harry's & Town Pump. Dead zone. Adding grass won't fix it. Pedestrian only street, Columbia, is dead outside of game days.

Last night a new concept for Belle Isle was revealed. The idea is to turn the area around the Aquarium & Conservatory into a commons where people are encouraged to stay & explore more of the area. You can learn more & take a survey on their website. belleisleconservancy.org

Once a smoke belching, industrial shoreline, today the skies of Detroit are clearer & its use more recreational.

Historians will scold us for having let Fort Wayne rot for decades. So much history in our backyard gone to seed. If this was in any other state, it would be a national park, meticulously restored & staffed with reenactors. Speaking of my dream retirement job, I’d live onsite & restore buildings.

Unearthed bricks and streetcar tracks on Monroe Street in Greektown, Detroit as they rebuild it. The streetcar tracks were first built down Monroe in 1865. The bricks came from Nelsonville, OH.

“Driving is a choice!”
Yes, a funding choice. When transit gets 12% & roads get 83% of the transportation funding, which are you going to choose?

In this email from Gov Whitmer, it says 23,000 lane miles have fixed in the past 5 years. That maths out to be 9% of Michigan lane miles (256,579). $33B spent in the last 5 years for roads. By that math, MI needs $333B to fix the other 91%. Tell me how transit costs too much?

Amazingly, the Burroughs Adding Machine Co. relocated all of its records, some of its manufacturing equipment, 465 employees and their families - including those workers’ household furnishings - to Detroit on two trains in a single day, in 1904.

I’m finding it interesting that so many Metro Detroit cities are pushing back against this 24 hour gas station chain. Normally, they roll out the red carpet for all things automotive. I’m not pro-gas station but how is 24/7 food/convenience controversial?
