DOLLAR DOLLAR BINS Y'ALL
Finally, an order from @coleminerecords.bsky.social containing the latest album from Durand Jones & the Indications, along with 45s from Brenda and The Charities. The Brenda 45 is really great, and I'm looking forward to checking out the other two records!

Next is Contraband Altars by Grand Invincible. I missed his when it came out last year. Raw-ass hip-hop with cool beats and rhymes. Nine vocal tracks on side A, ten beats on side B. Befitting the producer's previous life playing guitar in the band Spazz, this has a cut-and-paste photocopied j-card.

I play drums in a doom band and have never worn earplugs in the 30 years I've been in bands. I thought my hearing would never deteriorate until all of a sudden it did. Now I'm trying to prevent it from getting worse.

Be smarter than me and protect your ears!

Awesome mail day!

Up first is Shredder Orpheus from the maniacs at AGFA via @vinsyn.bsky.social. I have it on good authority that is a skate-rock adventure of the deadly kind.

My BIL gave me his old 1200 last year, and—after sitting in the box on my studio floor since then—I finally bought a cheap mixer for learning basic scratches.

Which is a long way of saying "Please look forward to future Def Magnetic releases containing primitive, 'License To Ill'-style scratches."

The new Zig-Zags record also showed up. I highly recommend Deadbeat at Dawn, the movie this record is named after, if you enjoy regional, no-budget trash cinema.

New Defcee/Parallel Thought record is now in here. Really stoked to check this out.

Mail call:

Good looking out to @garfunkle1.bsky.social for the hook up! These actually showed up a few weeks back when I was insanely busy with work stuff and I subsequently spaced on posting them. The CD has been in rotation in my car until I brought it in the house to take this photo.

Dark Waters (1993)

Lovecraftian nun movie made by an Italian on a Ukrainian island in the early 90s. If you require a coherent plot, take a pass. If you like atmosphere, amazing visuals, nightmare logic, convents with blind nuns, religious iconography, demon worship, and murder, check it out.

Did You Enjoy Your Time Here by @premrock.bsky.social showed up in today's mail. The cover looks great full size

After spending a lot of my workday yesterday listening to the new sleepingdogs album, I was stoked to get home and find the tape arrived in the mail. This record feels like it was made just for me, and @jessethetree.bsky.social & @searchableandrew.bsky.social keep getting better with every release.

First song written on the S2400 is done and recorded. It's nice being back in the saddle.

An actor who makes any movie better?

Mine: Tom Atkins

Here's a chop I forgot about that's pretty sweet, and also an example of what these videos look like. I have a couple simple ideas to flesh this loop out a bit more, but it might be a dead end for a full-blown instrumental song. Maybe an outro, or I'll set it aside for a hypothetical rapper.

I started going through all the shit that caught my ear while sampling on the S2400 over the last 8–9 months. It's a lot.

Good grief.

Good mail day courtesy of @coleminerecords.bsky.social: the new Okonski record, the Holy Hive LP I bought last year that got lost in the shuffle, the Pro-Teens record of love MF Doom instrumental covers, and a Patchwork Inc. 45 I know nothing about but I buy most Colemine 45s.

Yesterday I received and installed the new DSP card for my S2400. Super stoked to dive in this weekend.

This is what I wrote up to

A quick thread about Pater Noster and the Mission of Light by @smashism.bsky.social, which showed up over the weekend and fucking rules. It's a bonkers psychedelic, sci-fi folk-horror movie about record-store clerks in over their heads with a reclusive hippie cult.

The Sounds of Philthadelphia Vol. 4 from @philthspector.bsky.social showed up in the mail today!

Pura Manía's members are spread across North America, with some of them also playing in the awesome Canadian post-punk band Spectres. This 7" sounds a bit like if Blitz played new wave instead of oi. A2 is one of my favorite songs I've heard all year.

PGMG's first album Good Health is an all-time fav. I have it on CD somewhere, but I want to sample enough stuff on it that I want it on vinyl. The LP is $100(!), but it also released on a gimmicky 3 7"s before the LP came out. I bought the two available domestically and am watching for the third.
