I suspect it’s more than that. Meta spent millions lobbying Congress to ban TikTok. I think this was Meta’s plan all along: drive out the competition, then swoop in and acquire it to grow their monopoly. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, and soon TikTok.

In the last hour, I saw my TikTok tell me it’s shutting down tomorrow, Facebook created a VERIFIED TikTok page, and my TIKTOK privacy settings mentioned now linking to Facebook friends, then TikTok shut down. I’m assuming Meta just bought TikTok.

I don’t think they care about which country owns it. That’s just their scapegoat. I think the real fear is information gets out on TikTok far faster and with less control than any other platform. They’re not worried about our data being sold. They’re worried about losing control.
