I updated my chart comparing pediatric flu and Covid deaths.

Measles killed about 400-500 Americans (of all ages) per year in the years leading up to the vaccine.

Why are some infectious disease deaths mourned and others ignored, dismissed?

Kids aren’t supposed to die.

What would be incredibly helpful is data by age and vaccination status. The 2001-2016 data provided this for imported cases only

More data on breakthrough cases in adults would be helpful. How many of them were immunocompromised? How many were parents caring for kids w/ measles?

Some jurisdictions are reporting more detailed data in 2025. This covers a lot of the non-Texas cases.

It's possible that the TX outbreak is skewing the % of breakthrough cases, but when excluded we see very similar numbers before and after 2020.

The 2025 data does not distinguish between unvaccinated/unknown status, but looking at the categories broadly, it appears that breakthrough cases may be declining, albeit with a huge amount of uncertainty
June 2, 2025 at 8:36 PM
2001-2016 data tracked cases by 5-17 and 18+ whereas the 2025 data tracks by 5-19 and 20+, but even accounting for this difference, it appears that the percentage of measles cases in adults has decreased.

This would be consistent with vaccination rates in children declining.

Infectious disease doctors are really out there saying “fuck them kids” with their whole chest.

Hundreds of children are dying in the US every year from infectious diseases such as flu and Covid.

We should be using all tools to reduce these deaths, not shrugging our shoulders and accepting it.

55yo Canadian woman who received one dose of MMR as a child had a serious case of breakthrough measles that put her in the hospital for four days.

She is a teacher who was likely exposed at school.

Three years ago today, fresh off his first two brain surgeries.

He did not want anyone to cut his hair, so it just stayed uneven until radiation made it fall out.

Is the drop in influenza vaccination rates the reason that pediatric influenza deaths are increasing?

It is likely a factor, but it’s not the only factor.

Patients: We need universal masking in healthcare settings to protect us from getting infected by HCWs.

Hospital administrators: HCWs would never show up to work sick.

Patients: Most illnesses are contagious before symptoms start and YES THEY WOULD.

Texas health officials think the measles outbreak will last a year.

Make Endemic Measles Great Again! 😩

Oklahoma apparently lacks the ability or desire to lab confirm measles cases.

The CDC won’t count probable cases 🤦🏻‍♀️

So according to the CDC there is no measles in Oklahoma 🙃

One case was removed from the case count altogether when further testing revealed it was a reaction from the attenuated strain in the vaccine, which happens occasionally. All other genotype testing has come back as D8 so far.

Interesting updates on vaccination status.

Two cases were changed to unvaccinated because they received the vaccine after exposure but it was too late.

Measles updates for Friday, March 14.

Texas has updated their numbers, increasing the outbreak total (TX cases only) to 259. Cochran county is reporting cases for the first time.

Lamar County, TX, announce 4 cases of measles in an unvaccinated family (ages 5mo-adult) who traveled to Gaines County.

Lamar County is way on the other side of Texas, nearly a 7 hour drive.

Lamar County does have a Mennonite population.

Now 290 USA measles cases in 2025.

How many people were infected with measles because the Lubbock hospital actively caring for a bunch of measles cases for the past month+ wasn’t requiring masks until now?

Wednesday, March 12

We are kicking off the day with a new case of measles in the Philadelphia area, a child who recently traveled internationally.

This is case #286 for the year, my spreadsheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

*endemic* measles was eliminated in 2000 and remains eliminated.

This chart was mid-year, final case count for 2024 was 285.
