Singh's The Woman Who Thought She Was A Planet is very, very much worth reading if you are willing to try a series of grouping related short things. one of my top five favorite books.

ahh dangit i was going to recommend the excellent Vandana Singh or the anthology Readymade Bodhisattva but they are short stories... i know there is an Egyptian Science Fiction Society but i haven't read any of them (yet)
