The credentials is most often family with citizenship (which can't just be conjured up) or skills/education in demand, which if you don't already have could take years to work towards.

Great in theory but a lot more difficult in practice. The means is typically large amounts of money outright paid or required investments, something a lot of people in the US can't just plop down when we're often just living paycheck to paycheck.

It needs to be stated that even though there's safe places in parts of the world, they are out of reach for the majority of people. Trans asylum seekers from the US are not accepted in any of those places and most people don't have the means or credentials for methods of legal immigration.
