It's fifteen years today since my brother Al died (how on earth has that much time passed already?). He was 30 then, and I was 32. So much life has gone on since then, but he's still very missed, and loved.

I just finished reading the excellent novel 'The Space Between' by Lauren Keenan. This was as great as I hoped it would be, and I highly recommend it. Definitely one I'll be both keeping and rereading!

Four days away for respite, in a peaceful bush setting, can only do so much good when you learn some chucklefuck has skimmed your credit card and has tried doing a fraud! Have been sorting the damage with the bank this afternoon now I'm home. Weeeee.
Green Waitākere (West Auckland) native bush views: punga ferns, mānuka and kānuka, tī trees, green hills, and misty grey skies in the distance. You can't hear the bird song, but there's plenty. This was the view standing on the deck.

What's something beautiful that you saw recently?
Xander the indoor floof cat has transformed into The Great Gentleman Adventurer for the afternoon (after Dee accidentally left the back door open) and is in the leaf litter, wearing a crown of cobwebs, and looking like a 60's summer child. His grey fur is still lush (aside from his paws), his eyes are wide at all the greenery, and everything smells amazing!

This is a brilliant newsletter post! I grew up reading a lot of 'Golden Age' - there's still a lot on the shelves! But it's mixed in with a lot of more contemporary stuff for a reason, an @sentencebender.bsky.social nails the reason why!
Current state of the SFF bookcases, full of a variety of SFF books in approximately alphabetical order. There's also some reproduction Greek vases perched on top of the shelves; a soft top wombat hanging out on one shelf; a sewing kit; and in the foreground is some fresh washing in a basket; and a cat tree and a standing lamp. It's a cozy lounge.

I'm delighted to have my @pepperraccoon.com t-shirt supporting Wellington Pride! (Get yours here if you're so inclined wellingtonpride.digitees.co.nz). I don't buy clothes often these days, but very glad of this one.

A thoroughly undignified silver-grey cat with longish fur sprawls on his back on a bed, his paw covering his face but leaving his pink nose just showing. His belly fluff is silver-white, his tail is long and soft, his paws have long fluff between the pads. He is very much an indoor cat, and thoroughly spoiled! He sleeps on a black and white blanket utterly despoiled by cat fluff covering a cream comforter (seen in the background), with the edge of a bookcase with graphic novels just barely seen to the side (his humans being fans of such things).

Treated myself to daffodils today! (I had four migraine flare days in the last seven. Ugh. It's nice to have some yellow cheer in the house.)

They arrived and look amazing - thank you @pepperraccoon.com! I have hung them on my wall next to my beloved pounamu (a long-ago gift from my now departed brother). Things to be appreciated daily, and worn between occasionally and often 😊
