Deepstates episode two drops in a few short hours. I wanted to make sure that we had the PERFECT thumbnail for the youtube video. which meant doing some iteration. this one didn't make the cut, but I did bring it to the point of nearly being finished.

I just love the deep purple sweet baby nightmare @wollymight and I created :)
Mac and watts in front of a wall of strange briefcases. a pile of hat wearing skeletons sits in the corner near the briefcase return. Mac jumps over a desk running into a theater that defies good sense. how are audience members supposed to get in there. Watts watches on. the popcorn calls to her with it's alluring false butter. it's fake ass desire fumes. Two buddies on a roadtrip.

I need some more practice in mechanical design. if anyone has any tips? but I think I was starting to hit on something with some of my backgrounds for the last episode of Deepstates.
a strange control panel with monitors a purple orb imbedded in a a strange pink machine. cords and tubes shoot off in all directions almost like the roots of a tree a row of claw machines behind a counter. strange jars sit beneath a cobweb bedecked counter. the pink squiggles in the jars are reminiscent of brain matter

I really love working on Deepstates. I only made comics before @wollymight got me involved in making the drawings move, and more importantly make it art. Getting to have a small influence the world has been transcendent .
What lives in this weathered manilla envelope? a vast unknowable conspiracy? a DVD set of Gravity falls? My long ago destroyed movie script? a human hand?! a mail van sits at a security checkpoint. beyond the barbed wire and spotlights strange boxy buildings fade into darkness. a wall of briefcases are held by skeletal hands erupting from the plaster.

A handful of liminal backgrounds for the most recent ep of Deepstates. It was really important for me to try to capture the mood of this strange place. A shadowy institution with incomprehensible rooms and halls. why do these wind? why are the doors set so close together? what is it like in there?
a door leading from a white void into a dark and strange interior. an exit sign above the door reads ESCAPE instead of the regular verbage a long snaking hallway warping. close set rooms. what are these? who observes what through their small glass ports? An abandoned yet inhabited theater. a popcorn machine with fresh popcorn and a spiderweb growing off pristine bags of chips.
