CDT SuMMeR PhD Researcher studying the impacts of #offshorewindfarms on #benthicecosystems using trait-based approaches @sosbangor.bsky.social. Works identifying #deepsea creatures and habitats 🪸
I was invited to present and describe how #functionaltraits can be used to document changes in #ecosystemfunction in response to disturbance. We need to ‘turn existing data into insight’ and ‘move beyond species’ to inform marine spatial planning with a focus on safeguarding ecosystem services. 🌏🧪🦑

Co-chairing my first conference session ‘Navigating tomorrow’s seas through integrative ecosystem service assessments and decision-support tools’ was an incredible opportunity to learn from scientists around the world working to find solutions to shared problems. 🌏🧪🦑 #11ESPConference #marineecology

Had a great time meeting with my fellow CDTSuMMeR PhD cohort and seeing how our projects have progressed. It was exciting to hear how more colleagues can now see how functional trait analysis could be used in their own work. How do you think you could use a functional trait approach in your work? 🧪🦑

As inspired by @profbenthos.bsky.social, I have received my Bluesky Roast. I don’t think anything could be more accurate than ‘a penchant for deep-sea drama and benthic banter’. Throughly impressed by its reading based on my limited activity so far : blueskyroast.com

I have been lucky to work in various scientific fields before embarking on my PhD.

Worked as a benthic ecologist, identifying #deepsea creatures using imagery analysis.

Led projects using #communityscience to identify the distributions of endangered bats in my home of Ontario, Canada. 🦇

Hello! My name is Bridget and I am a CDT SuMMeR PhD researcher based at @sosbangor.bsky.social. My project aims to use trait-based approaches to inform habitat mapping of ecosystem function, process and services in benthic communities. Looking forward to connecting with new groups on this platform!
