I was aware that the description of plesiosaurs as like "a snake drawn through the shell of a turtle" had a long and mysterious pedigree (oceansofkansas.com/snaketurtle....). Here is a datum not previously mentioned; from Hugh Miller's 1858 book "The Cruise of the Betsey".

Had a wonderful time learning more about rewilding in Scotland yesterday on a course by Northwoods Network/Scotland The Big Picture. Saw incredible regenerated wetland due to beaver reintroduction (but alas no actual beavers sighted). 🦫
