mostly just observing. climate change, news, energy topics.
I’m extremely skeptical, honestly

bummer

Always nice to hear positive news but it sure does seem like the transition is unraveling: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
The Electric Car Transition Unravels Slowly, Then All at Once
The global transition to electric vehicles is beginning to unravel the way major changeovers often do: slowly at first, then all at once.

hopefully their new smaller EVS will work out
December 16, 2025 at 6:33 PM
Wish I could read but paywalled. Seems like all the other automakers are going that direction, no?
December 16, 2025 at 6:31 PM
Makes sense. Guess I’ll have to be patient (the worst!). Thanks so much.
December 12, 2025 at 12:23 AM
If it’s not all natural variability, then there must be something with using those paleo constraints? I hope that makes sense.
December 11, 2025 at 10:16 PM
Right. And I will review that article (which I did read when Sherwood et al. came out). I just do not understand how we could explain the persistent cloud thinning phenomenon without assuming ECS must be over 4C?
December 11, 2025 at 10:16 PM
If the cloud thinning is unlikely to have been caused by internal variability, and it's either down to reduced aerosols or a feedback (both of which imply higher ECS), why would we stll think ECS is 3C? Is it all down to this LGM datapoint?

Like when is this ”climate capitalism” thing going to work finally 😭
December 5, 2025 at 3:56 PM
I agree. Didn’t mean to echo a bad faith argument. I’m just getting frustrated with constantly hearing about emissions and coal peaks and seeing no evidence of said peaks materializing.
December 5, 2025 at 3:30 PM
I understand that this is bad but seems quaint in comparison to e.g. India coal expansion plans (www.bloomberg.com/news/article...)
India Weighs Power Plan Shift to Expand Coal Through 2047
India is considering an unprecedented increase in coal power capacity, potentially building new plants until at least 2047, according to people familiar with the development.

Hannah this was a great read. I’m curious if you have been following other countries around Asia.

It looks like India (www.bloomberg.com/news/article...) and Indonesia (www.reuters.com/business/ene...) are not planning to peak any time soon.

Yea that was the section of the session I was referring to. Really scary stuff honestly. And hard to square all this new science with the growing trend to just ignore the climate in policymaking.
December 5, 2025 at 2:58 AM
I look forward to more discussions of cloud feedbacks, etc.

especially re studies like this one: bsky.app/profile/ryan...
5) One telltale sign, they note, is the unplanned experiment occurring over the oceans as a result of new Shipping Fuel regulations, which reduced the amount of sulfate aerosols. They argue this unmasked GHG warming AND reduced Earth's reflectivity (via cloud feedbacks).
December 5, 2025 at 2:34 AM
This is so good. But that final point wondering how the next El Niño is going to shake out was very disquieting. I assume, if we never dip under 1.5C in the next year or two, we are likely in a high ECS world?
December 5, 2025 at 2:34 AM
Well if someone like you, who knows a lot more about this stuff than I do, is also confused, I feel less bad for being confused!

wonder if @jael.bsky.social has heard anything...
December 5, 2025 at 2:31 AM
That's all fair sure. But doing something is better than nothing still I think. Especially if it lays the groundwork for future legislation. But yeah idk.
December 5, 2025 at 2:24 AM
How does this square with the SEIA letter? Seems to totally contradict the letter. I assume the stuff they are talking about would effect projects later in the pipeline?
December 5, 2025 at 2:08 AM
There are negotiations focused on adding language to limit executive overreach, no?
December 5, 2025 at 1:49 AM
yeah the kind of thing in the video should be handled but we'd all be much safer on the rod if the majority of cars were driven by robots and not texting drunk human beings
December 2, 2025 at 9:59 PM
curious and I guess confused as to what you are implying we should do as a result of this fact.
November 26, 2025 at 10:36 PM
If absolutely nothing in the past has worked, won't we need to do something radically different? are you going to become a degrowther (I know you won't but I am legitimately curious).
November 26, 2025 at 10:36 PM
this century? boy I hope that, by the end of the century, we will get there. Not in 2050 but 2100? Or a couple decades earlier? that's really impossible?
November 19, 2025 at 9:06 PM
makes sense, will have to read it
