During MECH WEEK I wrote about the role of pilots in mech games, using HOME: MECH x KAIJU by @deepdark.games as the example: www.skeletoncodemachine.com/p/mech-week-...

It looks amazing, Brian. Great job on the design (and the website too!).

It's been a labour of love (remind me to not commit to drawing 50 rocks for my next game...), but I'm really excited to share it with people!

Thanks to all the folks who provided feedback along the way, especially Atopia's WIP Wednesday group.

The core game loop involves navigating to distant stars and exploring planets that could be your new home.

I wanted each star spread to feel like you were there, looking at your potential new sun.

Mixing the stellar landscapes with "old scientific book" took a few attempts to get right!

It's also important to me that my books are really useable, and never a barrier to actually playing the game.

This means having a good flow, letting the layout breathe, and making it really easy for the facilitating player to run the game.

A huge inspiration was old scientific books with rock illustrations.

I found this style helped emphasize the "you are an explorer, what do you find?" aspect of the game.

(plus: I want to encourage creativity at a variety of scales, from planets down to rocks.)

I still haven't figured out how to convince a slime to listen to me.

Great setup! Now you just need some little mechs and kaiju minis and you are set.

Totally! I love the physical nature of it.

Thanks for designing a fun game! I am absolutely making an asymmetric game after playing this, very inspiring.
