In 1981 Thatcher broke the link with earnings when pensions were over 25% of earnings. Triple Lock has yet to restore their value to that level for the basic state pensions that the majority receive. The New State pension, that the minority receive, is closer to the 1981 level.

Young people, already struggling with low wages and high living costs, are being encouraged to believe that state pensioners are having a different experience. In reality state pensions have not recovered to their 1981 value in relation to earnings. Don't let the right-wing steal your future.

Opinion: The UK State Pension Triple Lock should end when the pension is back to 26% of average earnings, it's level before Thatcher broke the link with earnings. This should be the case independently for both the old & new state pensions Both should then be maintained at that level.

Since Scarborough Council was abolished and replaced by North Yorkshire Council the public gardens have been negelcted. The best colour now comes from the weed Valerian which itself competes with Brambles, Willow Herb and Sycamores to provide best cover for the rats nests.

So some of the worst paid pensioners in Europe might be getting back some of the winter fuel allowance, maybe. In the interim Labour are keen to remind us that they didn't take away the LibDems Pension Triple Lock, that was designed to close the gap with wages created by Snatcher Thatcher in 1981.

As we commemorate VE day, remember that Russia invaded Poland in 1939 in a pact with Nazis before being invaded itself in 1941. 80 years on Putin's Russia is still doing imperialist aggression and murdering its neighbours.

Need is a funny word to use with regards to a universal benefit that gives all taxpayers a stake in the UK. Universal benefits are highly efficient and ensure coverage such that no-one misses out. As a reminder here are positives of LibDems reining previous right-wing Governments.
