Spare me the "Dutton says" bullshit. As a Navy veteran of 35 years I believe respect & welcome must be at the heart of ANZAC Day; a day for remembrance, reflection, inclusion & for peace. Welcome to Country provides a gracious & generous foundation for us all to come together for those purposes.
April 29, 2025 at 6:35 AM
ABC News: "At a press conference earlier, Dutton said: "We employ security guards now at booths because ETU & CFMEU workers intimidate older ladies." Classic Dutton thug playbook. Sow fear & division? ✅️ Aim at the vulnerable (older ladies)? ✅️ Union bashing? ✅️ He is only missing the racism angle.

Libs campaign launch and the luminaries include Howard, Abbott, & Morrison. Rather than inspiring confidence or a nostalgic appeal, all they do is remind us of the toxic shit show that we have now thankfully left behind. As the Angels once asked: "Am I ever going to see your face again?"

Trump exempts electronic devices from his absurd tariffs. It's almost as if he's making it up as he goes along...

Dutton & LNP try to buy votes with short-term (fuel excise) or one-off (tax concessions) relief. No vision, no depth, no long-term policies or plans. The LNP think Australians will not look beyond next 12 months, where the spectre of their MAGA playbook awaits. They are taking us for mugs.
April 12, 2025 at 11:12 PM
Another excellent analysis by Laura Tingle on 7.30 (10 Apr). Politicians & media amping up tensions at a time when careful, considered language and thorough policy development needed. LNP still have not provided any comprehensive economic detail or cohesive policy. Media asking ignorant questions.

They've had 3 years to develop their pitch. No vision, no policies, no plan. Just arrogance, entitlement & negativity.

As the US weekend winds down, an exhausted world prepares for another week of absolute chaos, driven by a man so incredibly self-consumed he is not aware of the millions being harmed, so staggeringly narcissistic he doesn't care anyway, & so amazingly stupid he thinks he's winning.
April 7, 2025 at 5:19 AM
Dutton puffs out his chest & makes tariffs a hill to die on. This is worldwide & impacts 5% of Aus export market. Take a breath Pete. This needs time & nuanced negotiating. Aus has good US access & good leverage points. We don't want a repeat of your ham-fisted efforts with China.
April 3, 2025 at 1:45 AM
Why does the ABC breathlessly report this as a 'lashing'? Dutton's comments are not insightful & add no substance to regional security, defence or foreign policy debate. They are loud, hollow & aimed only to generate anxiety to support his lame 'tough man' rhetoric.

It's one thing to complain (a Dutton staple) but what would he do differently as PM? Like Abbott threatening to shirt-front Putin, Dutton is all bluff, bluster & bullshit. A loud, obnoxious, fear- mongering noise, yet no substance & no answers.

Peter, no-one is talking about your nuclear ideas. What should we do? Talk up terror threats? The caravan made us look silly. Blame Albo for Trump tariffs? No, everyone saw through that. Talk up "Back on Track"? No-one knows what it means. Hmm, I know, blame Labor for CFMEU. Genius. Call a presser.

We have abandoned these Afghans who risked all by working with us. We have appallingly low intake targets & processing moves at glacial speed. Time is running out for these people. The Australian govt must act now. Come on Albo, their lives are in your hands.

My Afghan friend who worked closely with Aus also abandoned by Aus govt, despite applying for a visa over 2 yr ago. The tiny intake target is 26.5K over 5 yrs & applications take approx 6 yrs to process. Our cruelty & neglect lie beneath layers of cold bureaucracy.

I will be boycotting US services & products. I would hope our government too will start reducing our reliance on this untrustworthy, unreliable & dangerous ally. Ditching AUKUS & US submarines would be a good start.

Instead of condemning Trump for introducing tariffs Dutton attacks Albo. Canada, Mexico, China could not stop Trump but instead of focusing upon a useful Australian response, Dutton wants to play politics. A small man with no ideas & incapable of making any useful contribution. Sit down Boofhead.
March 12, 2025 at 5:15 AM
OK, but all sides jumped on that bandwagon quickly. This story shows us weakness: in political leadership wanting to be seen as commanding & decisive; in media wanting to hyperventilate and ratchet up threat and drama; & in ourselves who seem to want simple conclusions in our busy, complex lives.

Maybe Dutton Public Service bashing plays well in his home seat but to a wider audience it seems to simply be a page torn from the DOGE play book. Dutton all noise, posturing and faux outrage but absolutely no substance, plan or clue.

Hey Dutton, after today's disgusting abuse in Washington, do you still think Trump is a big thinker? Trump must be utterly rejected & condemned for the dangerous insanity he has shown since coming to office. Or, Peter Dutton, is this what you want for our country too?

Over 2.8M Afghans exist precariously as refugees in Pakistan, fearful each day of arrest and forced deportation. The West must do more to help those impacted by our sudden withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. Aus 5 yr plan offers only 26.5K places. Not good enough. We must increase our intake! 🇦🇫🇦🇺
