So I had to go look at the actual critics reviews to see what the issue is
1/3 use the word 'muddled' with no expansion, 1/3 are just completely vague and the rest are comparing it to James Bond... which is the wrong reference point entirely.

To add, I think it's telling that the audience score is at 68%. Which I think is much more reasonable. Still too low for me, but I will accept it 😉

Everyone has a solid character, good chemistry and the plot works. It has action, comedy, romance and spy-thriller shenanigans. And it's Elisabeth Shue.
I could perhaps understand if some struggle with the campiness but it is 'The Saint' for pity's sake.

Riley was actually having an understandable existential crisis but decided to 'get even' with the girl he claimed to love instead of actually confronting his insecurity.
I hate that they played Xander's speech as a legit argument, Riley cheated and Buffy was right to be pissed about the ultimatum
