I love DC Compact Comics. To be honest, I bought Batman/Superman because I’m a completist.

Tonight’s reading in honor of his passing. RIP Peter David.

This is the first comic written by Peter David I read. 1985, unhappy about a 3rd monthly Spidey, this gem arrived. Nightmare tries to get Spidey’s help because the Hulk is chasing him through dreams. It was so good I remembered it for 40 years.

I’m doing that with a comic books. The guy running it has lots of ideas for promotion. I’m like “calm down, brutha.” This one’s for me. Here’s the first page.

Recently I’ve read books by @derfbackderf.bsky.social, @brianmbendis.bsky.social, and I just bought the book by Harvey Pekar pictured below. Do I want to move?

I should have taken a picture of this when it was pencils. It was one of my favorite Spideys until I inked it. Oh, well, that’s what sketchbooks are for. Practice, practice, practice. #Spiderman

I am currently reading these fine books. The cover isn’t right for my Daredevil but I’m staring at some beautiful David Mack artwork right now

When I was a kid WPIX or WOR ran King Kong, Son of Kong, and Mighty Joe Young on Thanksgiving. No football for us. Only giant apes. The next day they’d run a Godzilla marathon. No one was more grateful than a bunch of nerdy kids who had to wait a year to watch some monster movies.

I made a rare trip to Burbank yesterday and visited House of Secrets, one of my favorite comic shops. They had a copy of Death of Captain Marvel for $1 more than the cover. I didn’t buy it, and that decision haunts me (appropriate given the cover).

Drank a caffeinated beverage too late. Can’t sleep. Watching the Watchmen animated movie. Good so far but this suit is the ugliest thing to survive a multimedia adaptation.

Between my bouts of rage and sadness may I recommend FML by @kellysue.bsky.social and david lopez. I heard her describe it on @ashcanpress.bsky.social podcast, but could only remember to watch for the book. It’s a love letter to us multigenerational weirdos and witches. A galaxy of stars for #1.

Look at this absolute beauty. I can’t wait to dig into its pages.

So I just read this and enjoyed it immensely for the humor and inventiveness of the art. It also got me thinking about the role of pop art as containers of historical minutiae. How else will we remember the time of the DVR?
