I’ve been ruminating about Dr. Ramani’s thoughts on forgiveness. I’ve never heard her position stated out loud or with such unapologetic conviction. She calls it “the treachery of forgiveness."

Consumed by fighting to save my son (in my own defense, this is what mothers do), I sometimes lost sight of the fact that, in the big scheme of things, we receive much more than we give.

I realized we were headed into the hills high above Los Gatos. The sun was setting and unsettling thoughts stirred in my brain: “Why are we in the mountains? There’s so many trees. This guy is stronger than I am. No one knows where I am. No one knows who I’m with.”
