I really hope Canada’s new federal government reviews the cost of halting parent immigration sponsorships. Parents and grandparents are a quite different and special category compared to the “student mill”.

The two top reasons for MAiD in 2023 were cancer and ALS. The majority of people receiving MAiD in Canada in 2023 lived in QC, ON or BC. Unknown how many were originally approved as Track 2 (with a 90 day wait) & were reclassified as Track 1, meaning they could immediately schedule a date for MAiD.

I think what’s missing is terminal patients having strong advocates who not only know what the ill people need to give them a more comfort as their disease progresses before a date for MAiD, but who also knows how to get what’s needed happening. For instance, getting a palliative team in place.

How much time does the drs fee schedule allow for this discussion? It will no doubt take longer than 15 minutes.

Maybe there should be some thoughts to resurrecting the wards of yore? Eight bed wards for post-op emergency treatment requiring in-hospital recovery stays? Not a terrific solution, but better than a bed in a hallway. @josieosborne.bsky.social
