Pope Francis, the first head of the Catholic Church from the Americas who became a symbol of hope and change during his papacy, died Monday at age 88.

He was the first Jesuit pope, the first Latin-American pope and the first pope from outside Europe in at least 1,000 years. to.pbs.org/3EjlyFb

Shorter hours. Longer lines. And no more guided tours.

Visitors to America’s national parks can expect some of those impacts after the Trump administration fired 1,000 park employees as part of its latest effort to dramatically reduce the federal workforce.

Our German supporters made us realize we made a mistake, and we want to acknowledge it. Germany, you’re in our thoughts. While we’re relieved that AfD was defeated, we understand this is not a moment for celebration. There is still much work ahead, and we stand in solidarity with you.

One of my best friends is from a sleepy, wealthy small town in the south-west of Germany. He said, so many of my parents’ neighbours are rich and bored, with little to complain about, and they’ve radicalised themselves at dinner parties and online. In their aimlessness, they’ve bonded over hate.
This isn’t some rant saying “Germany has learned nothing from its past” - the reality is more subtle than that. Middle-class Germans live and travel with an incredible amount of ease and comfort, and they just got…sleepy. Many of them dismissed the far-right’s rage as just another set of complaints.
Just filed an article about the upcoming German elections (out on Sunday) and what strikes me is how timid much of the institutional pushback against the far-right has been. Some people have distinguished themselves but for the most part it’s just been really complacent - really disappointing.

WTF.

You obviously don’t care to engage. Just look at the quality of replies you get over there.
