Day 2: Echo
#folktaleweekecho
This is inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses. Echo, a talkative young nymph known for her voice, starts talking a little bit too much to the goddess Juno's hubby, Jupiter. Juno curses Echo by taking away her voice and only letting her repeat the last few words she hears...

Day 1: Night

Here is my ode to New England and the darkest of stories, Washington Irving's, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow".

Introducing our hero, Ichabod Crane, (the noble and dorktastic school teacher) as he is chased through the darkness of night by the evil Headless Horseman.

New portrait for the October group show at City Art Gallery in SF. This is Miseria, Greek goddess of depression and anxiety, standing in forced silence. I have been pretty 'miserable" these days, but am still looking for signs of hope. What about you? Show opens Fri,Oct 3rd (828 Valencia St, SF).

My piece for the Banned Book show at Cottage Valley Library in New York. The opening is today.
I decided to illustrate "The Diary of a Young Girl" by Anne Frank back in April and couldn't imagine then just how far backwards our country would be heading in just a few months...it's so horrific.

Folktale Week 2024
Day 7: Blossom

On the last day of #Folktaleweek2024, I wanted to leave with a bit of light and hope. Here's my portrait of the Roman Goddess "Flora". She is the goddess of flowers, spring and fertility.

inspired by the Mexican story of La Loba (aka La Huesera) or the "Bone Woman" who crawls over the land searching for lost bones. Once found, she stands over them and sings. Her voice brings flesh, fur and life back to the body. She continues and the creatures open their eyes and breath once more.

#FolktaleWeek2024 Inspired by Grimm's Fairytale "Jorinda and Joringel". It is a story of two loves that go for a walk and forget to watch out for the nearby witches castle. Soon, they are encircled 3 times by and owl and suddenly Jorinda is turned into a Mockingbird. Can Joringel save his love?

Folktale Week Day 2: Gate

Folktale Week, Day 1: Mist
Inspired by the British Folktale "The Green Mist", a story of a dying girl who is saved by a green mist in hopes she will hang on just a bit longer. The girl says, "I swear I'd ask no more than to live as long as the one of those Cowslips that grow by our gate each year".
