I inherited this sign at the Toronto “No Tyrants” rally after a family departed early. I LOVE it!

Waterspout Watch for Western Lake Ontario Issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorological Service of Canada, CA 3:05 AM EDT Tue, Aug 26, 2025 Conditions are favourable for the development of waterspouts over the Great Lakes today. The potential for waterspouts may continue tonight into Wednesday over Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. ### Wind speeds inside the spray ring of a waterspout are 45 knots or higher. Vulnerable vessels are at risk of damage or capsizing. Waterspouts are generally isolated in nature although they can also occur in families of two or more. Spray rings associated with waterspouts can measure in the tens of metres. Waterspouts sometimes appear as funnel clouds with swirling water visible near the surface. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. For more information monitor Canadian Coast Guard radio or Weatheradio stations.

I tripped recently on this disaster on Dundas St. East. Having slipped on ice in January and broken my wrist, this was an especially frightening experience.

A small parcel posted from Ouray, Colorado, on January 10, 2025, has finally arrived at my place in Toronto. The sender reused an Amazon pouch, but it was sent by the US Postal Service and picked up by Canada Post at the border.

A small parcel coming to Toronto from Ouray (Colorado) appears to have taken a six week vacation in…Indianapolis. #USPS
Tracking details of an item mailed through the USPS on January 10, 2025 from Ouray, CO, showing that it arrived three days later in Indianapolis and has spent all the time since then bouncing around various facilities in that city. As of February 20th, it’s noted as “in transit to next facility”. Not sure where that next facility is. Indianapolis?

Political website The Hill is this morning carrying some quotes from Democratic strategist Christy Setzer, who has expressed frustration at the tactics being employed by Democratic party representatives and senators in assisting Donald Trump in assembling his administration. She says: Democratic leadership acts like it’s permanently 2006, a year when, yes, we took back the Senate, but also before the Republican party found a cult leader and lost its collective minds. We don’t live in that world any more. We have a lifelong conman and convicted felon in the Oval Office who tries every day to turn this country into a dictatorship; let’s start acting like it. That means you can’t be mad about Trump trying to freeze government spending in the morning, and vote for his Treasury secretary – who will destroy the economy – in the afternoon. Stop helping Trump.

Chose my afternoon film well - I’d completely forgotten that Desk Set (1957) is, among many other things, a Christmas movie!
