CA voters hired me as their Secretary of State in 2007 because I pledged to improve voting systems. Results? https://tinyurl.com/BowenProfile
When not defending progressive values & secular AA, I'm at concerts, gardening or trying to be a joyful Cat Lady!
I agree until the last point. I don't believe we are all fucked, though many of us are - and all of us are in for stormy weather.

(Decades before Jan 6, I explained to my Republican brother that his crazies scared me far more than the crazies on the left. I didn't realize how prophetic that was!)

Fortunately, my only threats are to dangerous ideology and faulty thinking.

I don't think it pushed Trump to do anything he wasn't already planning to do. He talked about it on the campaign trail - those poor political prisoners.

I had a pretty good idea of the lay of the land the minute you referred to them as lads. It's like when Glenn Kirschner calls Trump "sport."

I agree on pardon reform, but I don't think this pardon will matter in 2026 or 2028. Republicans are going to bitch while Trump does far worse. Voters who cared about the price of eggs aren't going to vote differently on the basis of a man's pardon of his son. #it'sthepriceofeggsstupid

Got it.
My experience is that most posters don't answer questions in the comments. I think that's why people have been providing alternatives to having David answer.

Yet people believe that posting the Ten Commandments in school is going to change the situation. Churches have had plenty of time to inculcate morality, and yet we still have Donald Trump as our president elect. I wonder if the price of eggs would caused Jesus to abandon his teachings of morality.

The frustrating thing is that all of the people who voted for Trump on the basis of 2000 mules will never believe it.
December 2, 2024 at 6:05 PM
Keep in mind that Trump did not win a majority of votes the things that we will see in the next four years do not reflect the will of the majority of Americans.

The focus on Hunter Biden is distracting Democrats from the things that really matter. That pardon has nothing to do with the price of eggs and won't affect voters whose votes were determined by the price of eggs. #it'sthepriceofeggsstupid

Excellent list. I'd add George Conway's explanations of the law to Sarah Longwell over on The Bulwark. It's a podcast, but I like watching the two of them on YouTube.

George Conway Explains It All (To Sarah Longwell) - YouTube
Sarah Longwell (not a lawyer) needs George Conway (super-lawyer) to explain the ins and outs of Trump's legal cases. With every update, argument, ruling, and...

The mountain of posts about pardoning Hunter has shrunk the necessary outrage over Patel. Hunter is one person. Patel's role will be to destroy hundreds of lives, plus the Constitution and the political norms that have sustained it, at the dear leader's say-so. Let's focus on what matters most.

Of course we can criticize pardons of those convicted for their roles in the Jan. 6 insurrection, and we should! Trump's pardons of those criminals will be evil on top of evil. No comparisons are needed to figure this out.

Meanwhile, we are engaged in a circular firing squad while Kash Patel has been nominated to head up the FBRR (the Federal Bureau of Recrimination and Retribution, the successor to the FBI. Expected name change by executive order.)
December 2, 2024 at 4:21 AM
There's no winning here. Republicans are going to criticize Biden no matter what he does. It's got nothing to do with the price of eggs, and will therefore make no difference in future election results. Voters who want cheaper gas don't care.
Meanwhile...

He's become so arrogant, data to the contrary notwithstanding, that his head is on a trajectory to orbit Mars. I'd be happy if it stayed there until Elon arrived!
December 2, 2024 at 4:12 AM
He is more certain of this bet than is warranted by his track record. Arrogance level now circling Mars, where it is in danger of collision with some Elon-launched phantasmagoria many years hence.

Nate can stuff it. This is the last straw from him.

Accepting a pardon, which implies guilt, will create some hairy decision-making dilemmas for people who have done nothing wrong. And that will be most of the people who Kash Patel goes after as head of the FBR ( Federal Bureau of Retribution, previously known as the Federal Bureau of Investigation).
