Frederick Douglass never knew his exact birth date, but he chose to celebrate on February 14 because his mother called him her “Little Valentine.” ❤️

After his passing in 1895, Black schools in D.C. began marking February 14 as #DouglassDay, a tradition that spread nationwide.
