Writer, artist, gardener.

My debut novel, The Gardener's Plot, won the Minotaur Books/Mystery Writers of America First Crime Novel Award in 2023. Available at your favorite bookseller.

Taking a deep breath and enjoying the journey.
Another milestone in my writer's journey. The Gardener's Plot is available in paperback today. Whatever type of book you prefer--paperback, hardcover, e-book, or audiobook--The Gardener's Plot is there.

This is it. Publication Day Eve. The Gardener's Plot is winging its way through the post office to all the wonderful people who preordered the hardcover edition online. E-books should be available tomorrow. A huge "THANK YOU!" to everyone who's ordered my book. I hope you enjoy it.

The heuchera are still hanging in there even after the last frost claimed the hosta. Heuchera are some of the easiest plants I have ever grown. Their colorful leaves may look a bit sad when they've been covered in snow, but they bounce right back. I'll be adding more to the garden in the spring.

Do you like a traditional book you can hold in your hands and turn real pages? Or do you prefer e-books? Or maybe you want a book read to you. I received the audio version of The Gardener's Plot today. I can't wait to listen (and I wrote the book!).

You never know what the weather will do in the Berkshires. The 1987 fall foliage parade was cancelled when a freak storm dumped 2 feet of wet snow. Fallen branches blocked roads. Traffic stopped. That afternoon the sun came out and the only sound was the plopping of snow from the trees.

First ever author event today: reading at McCullough Free Library. Such a lovely group of people. Bonus: amazing foliage and an early dinner at Lil Britain in Bennington. Double Bonus: gorgeous foliage on the drive home.

Who else does NaNoWriMo? That's National Novel Writing Month for those who haven't taken part in the craziness: write a 50,000 word novel in just 30 days. The point isn't to write the next great American novel. It's to write--no editing, no second thoughts. Just get those words on the page!

Happy autumn! There are 178 days until spring, but this reblooming lilac doesn't care that the other lilacs are waiting for May. It blooms with them in the spring, and it blooms as the leaves are turning in the fall. I just love it.

Last night's fundraiser for No Paws Left Behind animal shelter at Mendel's Stained Glass Studio was such fun.

It's a beautiful summer day here in the Berkshires.

Happy Cativersary to Pumpkin and Jasmine, my two rescue kitties. They left the Sonsini Animal Shelter 8 years ago today and made the trip to their new home in cat carriers tucked safely in the back of my Jeep. I couldn't ask for better feline companions. Rescue pets are the best.

There's nothing like fresh-picked berries. Somehow they never seem to make it into baked goods...

Sometimes you've just got to be like this columbine, blooming in a place no one expected you to grow.

Lots of little green apples on the apple tree this year. My only questions is: will the squirrels leave any for me? They have a very annoying habit of taking a bite and tossing the rest away. I don't mind sharing, but really. That's just rude.

Columbine growing out of the pavement at the edge of the road I live on. It self-seeded from a pampered plant in my garden. Gotta love a determined flower.
