Georgia adds Lowndes County to #CWD zone after deer tests positive within 5 miles of border

The 2.5-year-old buck was found about 5 miles from a previous detection in adjacent Lanier County.

Maryland survey reports 62 CWD-positive deer in 2024

The new findings bring Maryland's total of confirmed CWD cases to 285 since the fatal prion disease was first confirmed in the state in 2011.

#CWD prions confirmed in raw, cooked elk meat, water used for boiling, but risk to people unclear

Grilling boosted detection of prions, which the authors say may be because heat helps release prions trapped in tissue.

Please, please get your deer/elk etc tested for CWD-- and don't eat CWD-positive animals. Risk of CWD jumping to humans is unknown-- but risk definitely decreased by not eating positive animals!
