That's what they want you to think <sardonic grin>

So fucking boring. Half the time it feels as if the interplay between No. 10, Westminster and the rolling news media is responsible for these stories, rather than anything more concrete like policy.

Barry Gardener clip on #r4today - well who knew Corbynite BG hated Starmer? 🙄

A single shared source of truth is essential for a functioning democracy.

Without it you’re left with fragmentation, polarisation and a perpetual culture war where the discourse focuses on what divides us rather than what we have in common.

Why American-style polarisation is spreading across the west
New research shows how incentives in the modern media ecosystem help explain rising division and negativity

Heard this excellent interview earlier. Always liked his lordship.

He did also say that the resignation of Tim Davie was inevitable.

It's important that this is pointed out.

But as you yourself have highlighted, this imbalance has persisted for years, decades even.

It makes this error of judgement all the more frustrating. Fucking amateurs.

Yes yes yes I agree it completely uneven. But we are dealing with the world as it is, not the world as we would wish it to be.

Whataboutery isn't going to help here.

Of course the BBC is under constant attack from the right. Not only does it stand as a direct competitor to commercial interests, it is also trusted and respected by targets of right wing propaganda.

Which is why it must not make stupid mistakes. And why when it does, it must act firmly.

Of course you could frame this as a witch-hunt.

Or you could see it as significant failure which has been dealt with firmly and appropriately, in a way that will allow the BBC to move on.

I heard that the issue was less about balancing programming and more about shoddy editing. Either deliberately or inadvertently Panorama had omitted part of the Trump speech of Jan 6th, resulting in something that appeared biased.

It's not feasible to take out an annual subscription for every article in every newspaper and magazine that's posted on social media.

In an era of AI slop and billionaire-owned media, there's still good journalism happening. It's happening at places like Louisville Public Media and @kentuckypublicradio.org And it only exists because our members believe in it too. Thank you.
