Of course, disease-causing fungi have never created a network between hosts, as TLOU implies. The species of fungi that form mycorrhizal networks and those that cause disease do not overlap, and Cordyceps, the TLOU zombie fungus, is not a mycorrhizal. So we are probably safe! For now...

This network allows trees to share resources during tough times and even "warn" each other about potential threats. So, fungi are a critical part of the forest's overall health.
