I’m retired, a mom, a grandmother, an MBA and since 2016, an activist. Someday my granddaughter will ask me what I did to help and I need to be able to look her in the eye and say, “Everything I could, I fought for you.”

Valparaiso, Indiana (a very red state) has a population of 34,627 people. Over 1,000 stood in resistance and solidarity today, exercising the right to peacefully protest as guaranteed by the First Amendment to the US Constitution.

My son and his family. My beautiful granddaughter started life as a micropremie. Her life, and her mother’s, were saved by skilled healthcare professionals and science. The ACA is why that care didn’t bankrupt them. I will spend the rest of my life working to protect them.

My sister-in-law lives in a group home. The care, education, interaction and love she receives there have given her a wonderful quality of life, a healthier life and a longer life than was predicted for her at her birth. To know her is to know love in its most pure form. She is part of my why.
