I learned in the book that Lincoln really was a idealist who thought slavery was wrong for both humanistic and economic reasons. I did not realize what a disaster it was that Johnson, the DEMOCRATIC VP pardoned all the Confederate perps. Now we see that Garland repeated that error.

I am reading Heather Cox Richardson's Democracy Awakinging with a book club. It was published before DJT was re-elected. It's overall been very depressing seeing the details of how the Christian nationalist right has been working for 50 years to come to power.
