Thanks for sharing this Thomas and reminding us of one of the best parts of Amateur Radio, the friendships we make. Looks like you all enjoyed a great activation. 73 Chris

You didn’t miss much!
Lots of contesters on almost every band and poor conditions. You should take advantage of days like this to work on your head copy, using the ARRL code files. Any speed you need is available. Or maybe spend the day playing morsle.fun
Don’t worry, everyone makes mistakes.

Do your research ahead of time so you know what might be available and how much it is worth
Check websites for buying used Ham gear to get an idea of the price
Know what you would like based on what you can afford. Best if you can buy from someone you know or someone who you know that knows them

The asking price is not the final price
Keep looking

You’d be surprised what you can find at a local Hamfest for a decent price GL

I think you might need to prioritize what you want in a rig. I would love a rig with all the fancy things but it’s not practical for me financially. So I looked around and found a rig that is 30 years old but has the warc bands and can run 100 watts. I put a narrow CW filter in it. Check hamfests.
