i think it mostly comes down to his bg describing him as having "naked contempt for vampiric laws and tradition" but he's still shown as being really cultured? just bc he doesn't like the suffocatingly restrictive nature of the upper echelons doesn't mean he's entirely out of touch with everything

i like to think that the fang motifs was what did it like he was already thinking about killing for this coat before but then he saw those and he started drooling all gross and nasty like a freak.

i think this combined w/ the running gag that he's a big fan of killing people just to steal their coats makes this even funnier. like if he just bought or stole it it'd be one thing but no he saw someone wearing this and went out of his way to kill them to get it. he needed this damn coat. gap moe.
