not just him, but for all FA, how much of it is the Angels not pursuing them or the FA not picking up the phone?

Everything he does is so bad, that is hard to pick what to be most outraged about. Then we accept ‘the bad’ because there’s always something worse. Then we just give up because our head is spinning on how fucked up everything is that he does. I can’t do this another 4 years!

Made my day! Hope you have a large collection of happy photos ready to go on Monday. We’re going to need them!

The people who said about the shift,’why can’t these guys just learn to hit it the other way’ probably last swung at a pitch in little league. With the exception of Tony Gwynn, and a small handful more, the pitcher is far more in control. Standing in that box is the scariest thing in sports.

HS teacher here. The ‘problem’ with education is that we teach EVERYONE -SPED, ELL, unmotivated, etc. Other countries have entrance requirements for HS- essentially limiting kids’ options at 13. I like our ‘problem.’ Trade schools can start at 18 along with college and kids can choose as they mature

…..or the 14-3 Lions playing the Rams at So-Fi!

Not just a job, but the right job. It’s insane.

There’s a saying: A’s surround themselves with A’s to get stuff done. B’s surround themselves with C’s, so nobody realizes they’re a B. By appointing some of the most despicable people, it makes Trump look more sane. He doesn’t want anyone smarter than him around, so he has to reach really low.

I normally wouldn’t be cool with this, but the felon in chief has pardoned AND nominated for federal positions much worse, plus he pledges to go after the Biden family. I mean, it’s what I’d do. I’m tired of them breaking all norms and we have to be the mature ones. Fuck that!

Thank you. I think I’m a knowledgeable fan, but I thought the CBT was $2 on Ohtani. I think many of us think that. I still think $70 down to $45 is circumventing, but certainly not as egregious as $70 down to $2.

But I’m just an Angels fan who’s really glad that he wasn’t pitching in 2002! You certainly followed his career much closer than I have.

For example, when figuring out the value of 700M over 20 years, it equates to 450M over 10 years, so it’s ‘like’ there really ‘only’ paying him 45M per year. I’ve heard that. But I always thought in CBT calculation, it’s still just 2M. I’m wrong on that?
November 27, 2024 at 7:40 AM
So Ohtani is counted as $45 in CBT calculation for 2024? I thought it was only $2M - which is why they could go after higher price guys. I’ve heard that $45 number before, but I thought it was just what the contract’s value would be after inflation over 20 years, not a CBT calculation

Yes, but does the World Series achievements give him the bump? Otherwise, there’s no argument to put him in. Morris is a good comp. Madison isn’t Koufax, but just to make the point, what if Koufax didn’t retire early and pitched 8 terrible seasons instead? Does he lose his shine?

‪Baseball’s CBA states neither players nor clubs shall enter into any agreement “designed to defeat or circumvent the intention” of the luxury tax. isn’t that the definition of these deferred salaries?‬

He had a 6-7 year run where I’d call him elite (200+ up, 200+ K, low/sub 3.00 ERA). If he was injured and retired in 2018 with his playoff record, does he get in? Does playoffs matter? Does a bad back half of a career negate a great 1st half? I think it’s debatable.

Teacher here. There’s some redundancy with a national, state, county, local district. It’s OK to clean some of that up, but curriculum is done by the state with local tweaks. County runs continuation, etc. DOE runs student loans, fresh start, some SPED. Consolidate - fine. Eliminate - NO!

Madison Bumgarner - HOF, yes or no? I say yes. His accumulated career numbers probably say no, but for a period of time, he was GREAT and had historic playoff runs. I think those playoff performances add enough to the career numbers that he should be in. (not a Giant fan, BTW)
November 26, 2024 at 9:27 PM
Angels take their big shot on a 34-year-old pitcher coming off of a career year - and before a great two month run after the trade deadline, he was having a miserable year. I’m so tired of these signings.

People don’t know how to debate anymore. The goal is to get in the most clever, snarky comment to go viral. If people would listen a little more, and try to understand why the other side feels a certain way, extreme views tend to get tempered, and real progress is possible.

But is there a quota on how many quotes I can quote?
November 23, 2024 at 9:47 PM
Time will tell what Bluesky becomes, but I’m not looking for a left-coded platform. I’m cool with differing opinions debated with vigor and respect. Twitter used to be that. It wasn’t right-leaning until Elon amplified conspiracies and the worst of the right. Let’s see how this plays out.

He showed a lot of regression after a breakout season. That made the estimated arbitration number too high for a year off.
