Not sure I understand, but are you saying that programming and system administration, while important and valuable, often boil down to being a computer plumber more than a cutting edge researcher?

Huh. I thought running a business empire must be hard. But if Mark Cuban thinks that all jobs are that trivial and require that little judgement, maybe his job is easier than I realized. If that is really true (I doubt it) he should take up a hobby. You know, just to challenge himself a little.

While there may be aspects that can only come from one or the other organizational structure, the best organizational cultures probably blur the line somewhat anyway because workers are working across teams anyway? Maybe?

It was if the restaurant was saying "(sigh), ok, I guess you had to come inside, we really wish you wouldn't have. In the future, could you just leave your money in a box outside, and we'll try to remember to bring food out, it would save us the hassle of a counter person at the drive through.

I thought of this recently when I stopped at a McDonald's on the freeway, went inside, and there were no counter people to take orders. I was told I had to use the kiosk. I walked out without ordering. In addition to being averse to change, it also felt like I was a bother....
