Oh, ye definitely. As a modder myself, im torn between always doing project on thw newest version , opposed to the most popular one. Imo the 2 main versions are 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 iirc, with a few outliers.

From what ive seen. for now 1.20.1 one will be the main version, until big mods like create/quark etc update to 1.21. And then backport mods will become a new popular genre.

The main problem with updating to new versions is that mojang has the tendency to revamp techincal stuff in their code every time. Making it a pain to update. Especially big mods. A lot of stuff breaks. The feature count doesnt matter that much. Its how much internal code they change
