I find it jarring that the English rendition of the simple Latin Sanctus mimics the Latin by making the second syllable the drawn out one: Sanct-u-us, Hol-ee-ee. It would make so much more sense as Ho-o-lee. The current practice sounds much screechier in English than Latin.
